Welcome back to Upcycled! We've been getting a lot of questions from you guys about our company so we wanted to take the time and answer them :) Here are the top five questions we've been asked the most, we hope you enjoy! 1. How often do you get new items on the site? Typically, we renew our site every three to four weeks. We're always looking for new items to add and it can depend on the type of alteration and how long it could take. We usually do a few drops for every season, starting with our 2019 Winter drop set to launch on Nov. 21! 2. What sort of items will be included in the winter line? The winter line will include cable knit seaters, puffer coats, patterned slacks, graphic tees and so much more! We're really excited to announce the winter drop because it is all about layering. We have enjoyed being able to redo a bunch of different items and make them into something that can be paired with so many different things. 3. What happens if I order an item but don't absolutely love it? We want you to be happy with your item so if you don't love it you can return it for an online store credit, we want you to find something that is uniquely you :) 4. How often do you host pop-up shops? We typically try to have a pop-up shop every 3 to four months! We try and do one for every season, and are working toward curating more content for the pop-up shops. In the future we hope to have them a lot more frequently, including in locations outside of Seattle! 5. Do you accept donations? If so, what types of items are you looking for? YES! We would love to take anything that you don't want, if you are local we would love to be in touch and pick up any donations that you have! We also accept any donations at our pop-up shop locations and give 10 percent off to everyone that donates 10 items or more! When it comes to thrifting, it can be a little time consuming. You need to search through the racks of clothes, try them on, etc. Sometimes a lot of things don't fit right but is the perfect piece of clothing. Our mission here at Upcycled is to find the best items and transform them into something new and improved! We want to make it easy for you so we do all the work for you! After a trip to the thrift store, we go through the clothes and separate them into piles. We will hem, sew, add patches, and add graphics to a few pieces. We like to add graphics to some of our basic tee's, and you can customize it! For most pieces on the site, when you are checking out it will ask you if you want to add a design or lettering. You can pick from a list of samples or choose what you want written. We want your clothing to be one of a kind, just like you! The team at Upcylced is excited for fall and to find you pieces that will be your everyday go-to items! To celebrate the season and to inspire you to re-vamp your fall wardrobe, the team at Upcylced is going to show you our favorite thrift finds we’ve been loving so far.
I recently thrifted this quarter zip sweatshirt. I really like it because it has lighthouses all over it and little facts underneath each one. I love the nautical zipper detail and how warm it is. It is still light weight but warm enough to wear without a jacket. --Malvin The item I've been loving the most so far this fall are these grey sweatpants. They are lightweight, breathable but still so warm! They are an everyday staple because they go with everything and are so comfortable to pair with sweatshirts and tee's. --Katie The item I’ve been wearing the most these past few weeks is this Addams family t-shirt I found while thrifting in Spokane. It reminded me of my mom because she would always sing that theme song with her sister. I like how I can throw it over a long sleeve t-shirt for some extra warmth or just have it on under a jacket or sweater. It makes me feel put together, yet still casual while keeping me cozy on my morning walks to class! --Olivia My favorite clothing item this fall is this denim jacket my sister Katie got me when she was studying abroad in Scotland. It is my everyday staple because it is so big and heavy, it keeps me so warm when it is windy. It's my go to piece everyday, especially on chilly mornings! --Caroline We hope you have gained some inspiration for your next fall thrift-shopping outing and hopefully learned a little bit about us! We want to see your #fallfinds or even your favorite fall items, so be sure to tag us on Instagram or use the hashtag #fallingwithupcylced. Thrifting can be overwhelming at first, with racks and racks full of vibrant clothes and unique patterns. Sometimes you just don't know where to start. Here at Upcycled, we want to make it easy for you to get pieces you love! Thrifting online for unique and special pieces is always cool but thrifting in person can always be a blast! If you want to start thrifting more, we've gather our top 10 most useful thrifting tips just for you! 1. Look. at. everything. Look through every single department! Sometimes my favorite pieces end up being from being from departments I wouldn’t normally check. I always like to look at the mens t-shirts and sweatshirts if I’m looking for something oversized. You never know what you could find in each one! 2. Bring some tunes! If I’m thrifting by myself I always like to bring headphones so I can listen to my favorite songs. I like to listen to music while I shop around. It helps you create your own little creative space while looking through the array of clothing. 3. How does it fit/feel? Be sure to try all your items on! Things on the hanger can always look different when it is actually on. The best way to see if it will be best for you it to make sure it fits and is something you are comfortable on! 4. Back to the basics My favorite items to find at thrift stores are the basics I like always have in my closet! I love looking through t-shirts and long sleeves in all different colors but especially black, white and grey. Turtlenecks are always good for layering during colder months and I always like to have monochrome t-shirts on hand to wear when I want the focus to be on the color or pattern of bottoms! 5. The most important question: will I wear it? There have been so many times when I love an item at a thrift store, buy it and then end up wearing it once or twice. The best way to decide if you really need the item is to think of at least three different possible outfits you would pair with the item. It helps when you can visualize yourself wearing something with pieces that you already have in your closet! 6. Have an open mind You never know what you are going to end up loving! Thrifting is the best way to try out something new that you’ve been wanting to! Be open minded to trying on a color that you never wear or a pattern that you really like but don’t know if you could “pull off.” Some of my favorite pieces are things I was hesitant to buy but wear so often! 7. Bring a friend along It’s always fun to bring along a shopping partner! They can offer you a second opinion and could pick something out for you that you never would have picked yourself. 8. Try a few stores The best way to find different pieces of clothing is to go to different thrift stores within your area. 9. Don’t be afraid to get creative Not the right fit? That is a-okay! You can always alter a piece of clothing to make it what you want. I always like to get oversized tops or sweaters and crop them myself for more of a baggy yet still fitted style. Another favorite of mine is finding pair of jeans and if the cut is a little weird on me, I either crop them for a raw hem or cut them into shorts. There are so many possible ways to alter and upcycle your clothes! 10. Keep in Mind: You won’t hit the thrifting jackpot every single time and that’s okay! Thrifting can take time and patience. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find “the right piece” or something unique every time. Thrifting can be different every time, that’s the best part, you never know what you're going to find! We hope you've learned some thrifting tips and trips for your next thrifting extravaganza! If you use any of the tips or find something that you love, we want to see it!
